When do you need data center disposal?

Datacenter disposal becomes relevant when your hardware reaches the end of its useful life, you are migrating to the cloud, consolidating data centers, or relocating your facility. It is also applicable when hardware is defective and you want to prevent devices bearing your brand from resurfacing on the second-hand market.

Our approach

How does datacenter disposal work at Whale?

We take the entire process off your hands. From the initial assessment to the final certificate, you don’t have to worry about a thing.

Inventorize

We map out all assets: servers, storage, switches, cables, and racks. We tailor the approach to your requirements, schedule, and compliance needs.

Certified data destruction

Data storage media are erased using certified erasure software or physically destroyed. Ideally, this takes place at your location so that the hardware never leaves your premises without being destroyed. You will always receive a certificate of destruction.

Dismantling and transport

Our own staff dismantle the hardware and ensure safe, documented transport to our processing facility. Each asset is registered and tracked.

Reuse or recycling

We refurbish hardware with residual value for reuse. We process the rest responsibly through our certified recycling line in accordance with the Lansink Ladder. Anything that can be reused is given a second life; anything no longer usable is recycled.

Reporting and certificates

Upon completion, you will receive an environmental certificate, a transport document, and a certificate of destruction. Everything you need for your records, GDPR compliance, or CSRD reporting.

Why Whale and not another party?

Many recyclers only take what is easy to process. Servers in good condition or laptops with residual value, leaving the rest with you. You are then left with a problem, even though you thought the matter was settled.

Whale takes everything, including outdated, damaged, or incomplete hardware. We handle the collection equipment, transport, and all documentation. You don’t have to sort anything or make any follow-up calls.

You always receive a certificate of destruction, an environmental certificate, and a transport document. Does your hardware still have residual value? We pay that out, sometimes enough to fully offset the service costs.
