What is e-waste?
E-waste is the collective term for discarded electrical and electronic equipment, officially known as WEEE. It covers anything with a plug, battery or rechargeable cell: from laptops and computers to cables and lamps. E-waste does not belong with general waste and sits within the wider field of IT recycling as a separate processing route.

Which e-waste does Whale Recycling process?
Whale Recycling processes almost all business e-waste. The most common categories:

We also take less common material and defective equipment, with no sorting required beforehand.
E-waste: valuable raw material and hazardous waste
E-waste has two faces. On the one hand it holds valuable raw materials: gold, silver, copper, palladium and rare earth metals. On the other hand it contains harmful substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium and flame retardants. Incorrect processing releases those substances and strips the residual value out of your hardware at the same time. Proper processing is skilled work.

The e-waste recycling process at Whale Recycling
1. Free valuation
Naturally you want to know what your e-waste is worth. Send us a list or a description with a few photos. Feel free to use our inventory file.
2. Collection service
If our buyback price suits you, we immediately schedule an appointment for our collection service. We supply the packaging material ourselves to transport the e-waste safely.
3. Secure data removal
For reusable hardware we take care of certified software-based data removal. If you want anything shredded, there is a charge for that.
4. Certificate of destruction
If you have had your e-waste destroyed by us, you receive a clear overview of what you had destroyed, along with a certificate.
5. Payment
You receive our purchase invoice specifying exactly what we agreed. We then transfer the amount within a few days.
Certificates, reporting and payment when disposing of IT waste
When you dispose of IT waste you want watertight proof. After processing you receive a certificate of responsible processing and, where applicable, a certificate of destruction stating serial numbers and the method used. The reporting is suitable for CSR, ESG and CSRD purposes. Does your e-waste have residual value? Then you receive a purchase invoice, which we pay out within a few days. No hidden costs, no surprises afterwards.

We carry out the manual dismantling with a PSO30+ certified social workshop. People at a distance from the labour market gain work experience there and guidance towards paid employment. For you that means higher recycling rates, for them a chance at a fresh start.
