Tape destruction
Old or defective backup tapes, such as DLT or LTO tapes, must be destructed in a trusted and secure manner. The best way to do this is by shredding the tapes into small fragments. This ensures that your company information is 100% and permanently destructed.

Why destruct backup tapes?
Backup tapes are used to store large amounts of data that are not frequently accessed, such as old archives. Tapes are very well suited for storing this data due to their high reliability and low risk of data loss. However, once retention periods expire, it’s crucial to properly destroy the data. Even outdated information should never risk exposure, especially when it contains sensitive details, such as personal records from healthcare institutions. Safe disposal ensures confidentiality and compliance, preventing data from falling into the wrong hands.

The best method for destructing backup tapes
There are several methods to demolish data tapes, but not all are equally reliable. By shredding old tapes, you can be 100% sure that the tapes and all data are demolished. Methods such as overwriting or degaussing do not always work. Moreover, you cannot tell from the exterior of a tape whether it has been completely sanitized. Once a tape has been shredded, this is indisputable.
After the tapes are shredded by us, they are mixed with other waste at a waste incineration facility and then burned. This provides even more assurance. Unfortunately, the material from tapes is not recyclable. However, by using it to generate energy, it still counts as a useful application.
