Data destruction
Whale IT Recycling provides secure data destruction through shredding or certified wiping, including an AVG-compliant data destruction certificate.

Why data destruction?
Data destruction is incredibly important, especially since the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We understand this better than anyone. At Whale IT Recycling, data destruction is our top priority. We help your organization stay GDPR-compliant when disposing of old IT hardware. Rely on our services for secure data wiping or physical destruction of hard drives and other data carriers.
The GDPR enforces strict rules on personal data protection. Businesses are responsible for ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data. Non-compliance can result in severe fines, even after disposing of old IT hardware. Additionally, data security is crucial for maintaining customer and employee trust and protecting confidential business information, such as patents.
Our approach to data destruction
We follow a closed-loop process to ensure your data is securely and demonstrably destroyed in compliance with GDPR regulations.
- Screened personnel Every employee handling data-bearing hardware undergoes strict screening.
- Secure transport We ensure your old hardware is safely transported to our facility.
- Data destruction To prevent data recovery, Whale IT Recycling uses multiple destruction methods, including Data Erasure and Mechanical Destruction (shredding).
- Certification and reporting After destruction, you receive detailed certificates and reports, confirming that your data has been completely erased in accordance with GDPR requirements.
- Destruction within 48 hours By quickly destroying data carriers, we minimize the risk of data breaches.

Methods of data destruction
We use two primary methods to securely destroy data: Data Erasure and Mechanical Destruction. Here’s what they mean:
Data Erasure
Data Erasure, also known as wiping or data overwriting, removes all data from a hard drive by overwriting it, allowing the drive to be reused. This method is both sustainable and cost-effective. We use certified Certus Software for secure erasure.
Mechanical destruction
Also known as shredding, this method physically destroys hard drives and other data carriers such as tapes, USB sticks, or CDs. Our shredder reduces hard drives to 9 – 11 mm fragments, in compliance with DIN 66399 – H5 security standards.
On-site data destruction
Does your organization have strict security policies that prevent data-bearing hardware from leaving the premises? Whale IT Recycling offers on-site data destruction as a solution. We can destroy hard drives on-site using our mobile shredder, starting from 500 units. Our flexible approach ensures you maintain full control over the process and the security of your data. The destruction process meets the highest industry standards, and since the data-bearing hardware remains on your premises, the risks of external transportation are completely eliminated.
Our responsibility, your peace of mind
We understand that your data is invaluable, which is why we take data destruction seriously. With our secure and GDPR-compliant processes, you can focus on your core business while we ensure your data is safely destroyed, protecting your company from security risks.
