On 7, 8 and 9 March 2025, the 34th edition of ‘Cycling for Sophia’ took place, the annual spinning marathon that raises money for the Erasmus MC Sophia Children’s Hospital. This year, the event focused on raising money for children with a heart defect. No fewer than 156 teams and more than 2000 participants committed themselves to this wonderful cause. In total, an impressive € 802,125 was raised during the event!
Sixteen enthusiastic colleagues from Whale Recycling and Krommenhoek Metals got on their bikes to work up a sweat for this wonderful initiative. And with success!
Thanks to the enormous efforts of our team and the generosity of our customers, friends and family, we raised no less than € 10,045! This wonderful amount was raised through 110 donations – a very nice result that we are very proud of. The complete overview of all donations can be seen on our campaign page.

The atmosphere during the event was great: music, encouragement and a good dose of perseverance made sure that everyone got the best out of themselves. For hours they cycled, sweated and laughed, all with one goal in mind: to raise as much money as possible to support the care and treatment of sick children in the Sophia Children’s Hospital.
We would like to thank everyone who contributed to this great result: our colleagues who threw themselves into the saddle with great dedication, but also all customers, friends and family members who supported us with their donations. Together we have shown that recycling is not only about reusing materials, but also about social involvement and a warm heart for good causes.
