Recycle your old computers at Whale IT Recycling

Does your company have old computers that are no longer in use? Whale IT Recycling specializes in computer recycling. It’s easy to schedule a pickup for batches of business computers online or request a quote. Of course, you can also drop off your old computers at our location in Rotterdam. Our team is ready to recycle your old computers and other IT equipment, and can even provide certified data destruction if needed.

Computer recycling with Social Return

Don’t just throw away your old computers. They contain valuable and increasingly rare metals that can be reused as raw materials once recycled. Additionally, computers may contain hazardous components like batteries or lead, making proper recycling essential to protect the environment and prevent fire risks. Whale IT Recycling is WEEELABEX-certified – a strict certification that guarantees old devices are recycled in the best possible way. By bringing your old computers to us, you’ll also be making a social contribution, as we process them in collaboration with a sheltered workshop through an exclusive partnership.

Choose refurbished

Looking for the most sustainable and circular way to recycle your computers? If your company’s computers are up to eight years old and still function well, they can often be reused. We thoroughly inspect each system, securely destroy all data using certified software, and give your computers a second life. Not only is this the most eco-friendly choice, it also maximizes the residual value of your old computers when you have us buy and refurbish them – since we pay a per-unit price rather than by weight – ensuring a better return.

What happens to the recycled computer parts?

When you drop off your old computers, all components are carefully separated and processed. Items such as the casing, motherboards, hard drives, and cables are disassembled, and the various materials—like metals and plastics—are reused. By recycling computer parts, we recover valuable raw materials for use in new electronic devices, reducing the need for new resources and contributing to a circular economy.

Collecting old computers

Do you have large quantities of old computers? We make it easy with our pickup service. It’s simple: Contact us to schedule an appointment or submit an online quote request. If you have more than 200 kg of electronics, our pickup service is completely free! We’ll arrange a date to pick up your old computers. Finally, you’ll receive an invoice for the items we’ve collected and a Certificate of Responsible Processing.

What determines the value of old computers?

Old computers are largely made up of metals, which can be reused as raw materials for new products through recycling. As a result, they always have some residual value, even if they’re no longer functional.

At Whale IT Recycling, we dismantle old computers by hand. Although this is quite labor-intensive, it’s done in a sheltered workshop. Disassembling old computers is an ideal task for people in reintegration programs. This manual approach not only contributes to social return, but also results in the cleanest recycling streams. Unlike mechanical processing—also known as shredding—manual dismantling leaves no contamination on parts such as the computer housing.

What does an old computer consist of?

A computer is made up of many different components, and each component itself contains a variety of materials. Below is an overview of the parts and materials in a typical computer. Keep in mind that the proportion of components can differ greatly among different types of older computers. You can imagine that a large, old desktop has a different configuration than a modern mini-PC.

  • Circuit Board / Motherboard – 8.7%
  • CD Drive – 8.6%
  • Aluminum – 4.6%
  • Cables – 2.0%
  • Iron – 48.8%
  • Hard Drive – 5.9%
  • Plastics – 4.0%
  • RAM Memory – 0.8%
  • Power Supply / PSU – 16.6%

Donate the recycling value of your old computers

The recycling value—also known as the residual value—of old computers is relatively low compared to their original purchase price. In most cases, they’ve also been fully depreciated from an accounting standpoint. Would you like your company to support a good cause at no cost to you? Then consider donating the residual value of your old computers. Whale IT Recycling is a friend of the Erasmus MC Sophia Children’s Hospital. If you choose to donate the residual value of your old computers to this worthy cause, we’ll boost your contribution by 10%. This way, your old computers become truly valuable again. Computer recovery

Are your old computers still in good condition? Then we can purchase them from you. When we buy computers, we determine their value based on the hardware specifications. The main factors that influence the price are:

  • The computers’ age
  • Their specifications (CPU/RAM/HDD/SSD)
  • Brand and model
  • Technical and cosmetic condition

Companies often stockpile old computers and other hardware for some time. In many cases, not all computers and peripherals are suitable for purchase. Whale Recycling is WEEELABEX-certified for recycling electronics, so you can combine selling your computers with recycling other devices and accessories. If we come to pick up your computers, we’ll collect all additional items—such as cables, printers, keyboards, and outdated equipment—free of charge to recycle them responsibly. This helps recover valuable materials.

When we purchase computers, we look at the hardware specifications. The most important indicators are:

  • The computers’ age
  • Their specifications (CPU/RAM/HDD/SSD)
  • Brand and model
  • Technical and cosmetic condition

Don’t worry—it’s easy to provide this information. You can send us your own list or use our hardware inventory template. Still too technical? No problem! We can make an offer based on a description and, preferably, a few photos.

If you don’t need a price estimate before we pick up your old business computers, we’ll simply send you a registration list after processing.
